Overview: The FBA Triple Crown Series is designed to encourage teams to actively compete in the three states served by FBA sanctioning and to reward the best scoring teams from within those state qualifying contests. The Triple Crown qualifiers in each state are the FBA State Championship for that state for the current and previous two years. Points at the Qualifiers DO count toward Team of the Year just as they would at any other FBA Sanctioned Contest. However, points at the Triple Crown Championship Invitational and Open DO NOT count toward Team of the
Year.
It is the intent of the FBA to provide a substantial amount of cash and merchandise awards at The Triple Crown Championship event. However, the cash and merchandise totals are subject to sponsor and cook team participation. As such, they are not totally predictable until late in the season. Therefore, the award totals and distribution may be changed at any time prior to the contest date but will be finalized 30 days prior to the Championship contest. Qualifying: The 2010 FBA Triple Crown Series consists of a maximum of three FBA Sanctioned Contests per state. Those contests are considered to be Qualifiers and the accumulated points won at those contests is going to be used to select the top 10 teams from each state, who will be invited to the Triple Crown Championship. Prior to the contest, the head cook of each cook team must be an FBA member. A team must cook at least two contests in one state to be considered for an invitation. Points can not be mixed between states and there will be no duplications or substitutions. If a team places in the top 10 in both Georgia and Florida, for example, they will receive only one invitation to the Championship Round and that will be based on the first state they qualify in. In the event of a tie, both teams will be invited and the rankings will skip down one additional position. For example a tie for 7th place will have two 7th place teams, an 8th place, a 9th, and a 10th for a total of eleven teams being invited. Pass Downs: If a qualifying team opts out of the Championship, the next team in the standings in that state will receive a pass down. If there are no further qualified teams in a state (remember - minimum 2 contests) the pass down will go to the next highest qualified team in the other two states.
